Phonics and Reading Scheme

Here at St Anne's we use Twinkl Phonics, a DfE validated full systematic, synthetic phonics programme to teach phonics.

Our phonics reading scheme is a banded scheme made up of books from Oxford Reading Tree, Pearson Phonics Bug, Twinkl and Discover Learning Letters & Sounds. There are also some books from other schemes. We have categorised every book according to the phonics phase and letter sets they cover. Children will be given home reading books that match the letter sets they have learnt.

If you require any further information on our reading scheme, or how best to support your child with home reading, don't hesitate to contact your child's class teacher via the school office.

Phase 2 Sounds

In this video, we take you through the Phase 2 Sounds. We look at how to say each sound correctly and how to practice oral blending and segmentation.

Phase 3 Sounds

In this video, we take you through the Phase 3 sounds. We look at how to say each sound correctly, and which spelling patterns are associated with each of the sounds in Phase 3.

Phase 5 Sounds

This video gives a clear example of how to pronounce all the graphemes that children are introduced to during Phase 5 of the Letters & Sounds Phonics scheme.
