Wednesday Word
The Wednesday Word is a special resource that helps children and their families reflect on the Sunday Gospel each week. It is shared with school every Wednesday and provides a simple and engaging way to explore the message of the upcoming Gospel reading. Through stories, prayers, and activities, the Wednesday Word encourages children to think about how they can live out the values of the Gospel in their daily lives. It also supports families in coming together to grow in faith and deepen their understanding of the teachings of Jesus.
This Week's Wednesday Word
✨ This Week’s Wednesday Word: SACRED ✨
This week’s Gospel shares the powerful moment of the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–9), when Jesus took Peter, James and John up a mountain to pray. There, his face shone like the sun, his clothes became dazzling white, and God’s voice was heard: “This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him.”
The disciples experienced something truly sacred — a holy moment where heaven touched earth.
💛 What does “sacred” mean?
Something sacred is holy, special, and set apart for God. Mountains in the Bible are often sacred places — but our homes can be sacred too when they are filled with love, prayer and kindness.
👨👩👧👦 Ideas for Families at Home:
-
Ask your child: What does the word “sacred” mean to you?
-
Talk about where you feel closest to God — your church, bedroom, garden, or a quiet corner of your home.
-
Create a small sacred space at home (a Bible, a cross, a candle, a picture of Jesus).
-
Spend a few quiet minutes together listening — just as the disciples were told to “Listen to him.”
-
Choose one way to make your home feel more peaceful and prayerful this week.
🙏 “Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for the sacred places where you are worshipped and praised. Help us to recognise your presence in our home and in our hearts.”
Let’s help our children recognise that sacred moments can happen anywhere when we make space for God ✨
