✨ This Week’s Wednesday Word: FORGIVENESS ✨

This week’s Gospel reminds us of Jesus’ teaching about the importance of forgiving others. Peter asks Jesus, “Lord, how often must I forgive my brother?” (Matthew 18:21–35)

Jesus teaches us that forgiveness should not have a limit. Just as God continually forgives us, we are called to show forgiveness, mercy and kindness towards others.

💛 What does “forgiveness” mean?

Forgiveness means choosing to let go of anger or hurt and showing mercy towards someone who has done something wrong. Forgiving someone can sometimes be difficult, but Jesus reminds us that forgiveness can bring freedom, healing and peace.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Ideas for Families at Home:

Ask your child: What does the word “forgiveness” mean to you?

Talk about a time when someone forgave you. How did it make you feel?

Discuss situations where children might need to show forgiveness, such as:
• when a friend says something unkind
• when someone makes a mistake
• when a brother or sister upsets them
• when someone says sorry
• when we need to forgive ourselves

Talk about why saying “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you” can sometimes be difficult, but can help us rebuild friendships.

Think about the people we may need to forgive. How can we show them the same mercy that God shows us?

Dear Lord Jesus,
help us to forgive others as you forgive us.
Give us kind and loving hearts and help us to let go of anger and hurt.
Help us to remember that forgiveness brings peace and helps us to love one another.
Amen.

Let’s help our children understand that forgiveness is at the heart of our Christian faith. When we forgive others, we follow Jesus’ example and share God’s love and mercy with those around us. ✨
