Modern Foreign languages
At St Anne's Roman Catholic Primary School, the intent of our Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) curriculum is to cultivate a passion for and mastery of foreign languages in our students, fostering linguistic skills while aligning with our Catholic faith. We draw inspiration from Psalms 19:3, which reminds us that “Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” This scriptural support reinforces our commitment to educating students in a way that allows them to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse global community.
Our specific aims include:
- Communication Skills: To equip students with the ability to communicate effectively in a second language, enabling them to express their thoughts, ideas, and feelings confidently, as a reflection of their understanding that words can bridge cultures.
- Cultural Awareness: To encourage understanding and respect for different cultures, traditions, and perspectives, fostering an appreciation of global citizenship and social cohesion, echoing the universal message of Psalms 19:3.
- Personal Development: To enhance cognitive skills such as memory, critical thinking, and creativity through language learning, contributing to students' overall personal growth and development.
- Spiritual Growth: To align our MFL teaching with our Catholic values, ensuring that students explore the connections between language, faith, and community, and understand the role of language in sharing God’s messages around the world.
