Psalms 105:2

Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!

At St Anne’s Roman Catholic Primary School, we believe that music is a vital part of the holistic development of our students, fostering creativity, emotional expression, and cultural appreciation. Our intent is to provide a rich and diverse music curriculum that aligns with our Catholic values and promotes the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural education of our pupils. We aspire for all children to experience the joy of music-making, understand its place in the world, and develop a lifelong appreciation for music.

Our music curriculum aims to:

  • Cultivate Musical Skills: Ensure that children are equipped with the skills to perform, compose, and listen critically to a variety of musical genres.
  • Enhance Cultural Awareness: Introduce pupils to music from various cultures and historical contexts, fostering an appreciation for diversity and inclusivity.
  • Support Spiritual Growth: Integrate music with our Catholic ethos, using hymns and liturgical music to enhance worship and create opportunities for reflection and prayer.
  • Promote Personal Development: Encourage teamwork, discipline, and confidence through group performances and composition activities.

At St Anne’s we use Sparkyard Music Curriculum which provides teachers with a clear sequence of musical activities to use in the primary classroom. It uses a skills-based approach where key musical concepts and themes are developed and revisited across the year groups, building on knowledge and understanding at every stage. Teaching is enhanced through wider opportunities for children to have instrument tuition and join the choir.
