Art

Ephisians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

At St Anne's Roman Catholic Primary School, the intent of the Art curriculum is to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive environment where every child can express their creativity, explore their individual identities, and develop a deep appreciation for the visual arts. Grounded in Ephesians 2:10, which reminds us that we are all "God's handiwork," and we aim to:

  1. Promote Creativity and Individual Expression: Encourage all pupils to think imaginatively and develop original ideas through a variety of artistic mediums as a reflection of their unique God-given talents.
  2. Cultural Understanding: Introduce pupils to diverse artistic traditions and contexts from both religious and secular perspectives, fostering a sense of belonging and respect for different cultures, in line with Catholic values.
  3. Skill Development: Equip children with the skills, techniques, and vocabulary necessary to express their thoughts and feelings through art, enabling them to progress confidently from their starting points, thereby fulfilling their potential as “God's handiwork.”
  4. Integration with Catholic Teachings: Use art as a means to explore and reflect upon the school's Catholic ethos, enabling students to create work that resonates with their faith and values, recognising the divine nature of creativity.
  5. Lifelong Appreciation of Arts: Instil a lifelong appreciation for art, encouraging pupils to engage with and respond to the art they encounter in everyday life, recognising the beauty in all God's creations.
