History

Psalm 78: 3-4

Things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.

The subject leader for History is Mr. Dunn

Our History curriculum is designed to:

  1. Promote Knowledge and Understanding: Equip students with a chronological understanding of key historical events, figures, and developments, emphasizing their significance in shaping contemporary society, particularly through the lens of Catholic Social Teachings such as the dignity of the human person and the common good.
  2. Develop Critical Thinking: Encourage pupils to analyse sources, question biases, and construct well-supported arguments in a spirit of respect and solidarity, which are fundamental aspects of Catholic Social Teaching.
  3. Cultivate Empathy and Values: Infuse our teachings with our Catholic values, helping pupils understand the moral implications of historical events and the diverse experiences of people through time, promoting a sense of justice and peace in accordance with Catholic Social Teachings.
  4. Encourage Active Citizenship: Prepare students to be informed and active citizens, drawing lessons from history that can be applied to current societal challenges, thereby instilling a sense of responsibility towards their community and the world, guided by Catholic principles of stewardship and service.

At St Annes we have adopted the Kapow Primary scheme for History.  Kapow allows for a progression and development of skills and knowledge in order to enable pupils to reach the end of key stage outcomes outlined in the National curriculum.
